Set on approximately 1.5 wooded acres just minutes from downtown Matthews, this mid-century modern home has been thoughtfully updated while retaining much of its original character and design. Original pickled white cedar paneling, Roman brick, some original light fixtures, and steel beam construction remain intact, while major systems and finishes have been updated over the past several years. The main level features vaulted ceilings, large windows overlooking the front yard and trees, and a spacious living area centered around a wood-burning fireplace that opens to a side patio. The kitchen was renovated in 2020/21 with new cabinetry, counters, and a breakfast bar connecting to the breakfast area, along with a GE Café dual-fuel range, Bosch counter-depth refrigerator, and Bosch dishwasher. Two bedrooms are located on the main level with refinished original wood flooring and good closet space, along with an updated bath featuring a teak double vanity, new shower and tub, and a separate water closet. We have had multiple offers and are taking offers until 5:00 pm today. The sellers are making a decision this evening. No interior stairs! An elevator, replaced in 2021, provides access to the walkout lower level, which was completely finished in 2020/21 and insulated with foam panels. The lower level includes a second family room with wet bar, fireplace, and additional oven, along with a third bedroom, updated bath with infrared sauna and Mr. Steam shower with Grohe fixtures, craft room, laundry room with original mid-century metal upper cabinets, and a large workshop space that could also function as a gym, studio, storage area, or wine cellar. Additional updates include mostly new wiring and plumbing completed in 2020, new HVAC in 2021, a new water heater in 2026, added attic insulation in 2020, exterior trim painting in 2023, and an elastomeric coating added to the rear metal roof in 2026. The upstairs fireplace has been waterproofed and capped; the lower-level fireplace is currently non-functioning. Luxury vinyl tile flooring was added throughout portions of the home in 2020/21. Outside, the property includes a backyard shed, space for a future garage, a kiln hookup near the basement, and a wooded setting with frequent birds and wildlife. Google Fiber service is available in the neighborhood. The rear of the property extends toward a creek and adjoining swim and tennis club land, with a stream buffer helping preserve privacy and limiting future building nearby. The home is served by a septic system, and the owners note consistently low utility costs. Open House Saturday, May 9 from 2-4:00.
